Simon’s Husky Nordern is heavily modified to be a cycle race marshalling bike: lights, luggage, cameras

Simon sourced this switch which just fits on the left bar before the fat taper starts. Red is lights on, green is mode change

The cables fit alongside the stock bundle, which is handy

Simon’s Husky Nordern 901

Simon is a race marshal for national and international cycle events. I’ve done two bikes for him before. This is the latest.

As usual the aim is to fit orange flashing lights front and rear, whose flash rate is governed by race regulations.

Simon sourced some dazzlingly bright LEDS (with multiple flash pattern options), and a switch, and we discussed how and where to mount them.

He was kind enough to supply a factory manual, which allowed me to find a built-in accessory connector at the back of the bike. All I had to do was make an adaptor from that, and build a simple loom that made the lights work via the handlebar switch.

I always say this, but 90% of the job is planning how to organise the cables and connections. Plus, in this case, making some brackets for the rear lights that looked vaguely appropriate for the bike.

Simon was very pleased with the result. Me too.

The rear lights needed some custom mountings. This is the left…

And the right rear. I hope they suit the bike’s angular style
