Linden’s car with its old 2CV engine. Charming, but 70bhp less than a Moto Guzzi

Here’s the fuel- injected Guzzi engine plus 2CV gearbox

And here is the latching connector plug in the finished extension

Linden’s Guzzi-engined Lomax

When Linden wanted to transplant a fuel-injected Guzzi motor into his Lomax three-wheeler, he wasn’t fazed by mating it to a Citroen 2CV gearbox. Or hooking up a bespoke fuel tank with the Guzzi fuel pump inside.

But extending the wires to the dash was a little trickier.

This turned into a job for my brilliant apprentice Adam, who is better than me at the pitfall-prone pastime of locating modern connector blocks and terminals. Linden had tracked down the plugs, but the terminals he’d found turned out to be slightly different.

We considered various ways of extending the dash harness, and ended up with putting a connector either end of the extension. Because it’s a plug-in addition, Adam made all the wires one colour, and wrapped the result in Certoplast. Nice job.

Easy enough as long as you can connect like with like. Which Adam can

The finished thing, ready to plug into the dash

The new engine will stick out in a different place, so the front end will get remodeled a bit
