Clearly it was a spectacular crash

But that’s racing

Three looms – two new and one repaired – off back to Ian

Team Bike’s phoenix RC30

I did a couple of replica looms for Team Bike in 2023, based on the original Honda kit harness, but incorporating the need for modern endurance bikes to run number boards and rain lights. You can see those here.

That went quite well, because the team won an international race. I hasten to add that it was down to team boss Ian Martin’s meticulous preparation, not to mention the brilliance of the riders and support crew. But at least the electrons buzzed round the bike for the eight hours without much trouble.

Unfortunately a 2025 a crash led to a fire which made a bit of a mess. So Ian needed some new looms. Fortunately, there was still one loom left to copy.

My apprentice Adam and I made up new looms incorporating a couple of improvements. First, they had HT coil adaptors, so that Ian could use original kit coils or more widely available conventional ones. Second, we could integrate the Ignitech ignition he now uses.

The bikes are up and built, and pre season testing is underway. The big thrill for me is the RC30s now have Rupe’s Rewires stickers on them. I read about the exploits of Team Bike as a kid, so to be a small part of the modern team is awesome. All the best for 2026, Ian.

We also sourced a new TE connector block for the template wiring loom. The original plug had got broken, so it was good to be able to repair it

Deutsch DTM plugs were not a feature of original factory looms. They run the modern switches for number boards and rain light

This here is an ignition coil adaptor. It can use the Cannon Sureseal plug for kit coils (the fat rubber thing), or locking 6.3mm spades for ordinary coils
