GSX1100 motor, Bandit wheels, upside down forks, custom yokes. The rest of it is still a GS1000

Note squished orange/white wire. This happens to all Suzuki right side handlebar switches of this design (see also: Laverda Jotas)

40 years of grunge is enough to stop the indicator switch contacts working

The light switch contacts weren’t so bad but still needed a clean up

The original ignition switch had bare minimum cable for the electrical load. These new 25 amp wires are much higher capacity

Paul’s Suzuki GS1000/GSX1100 special

Paul always wanted another GS Thou after owning one as a youth. He bought this one from a guy who’s begun a rebuild/upgrade project but had to stop when he got ill. Paul promised him he’d finish it and ride it on the NC500 in Scotland, which is what the previous owner had intended to do with it.

It arrived at the RR workshop with the paint just finished, and everything else more or less complete (apart from the carbs, which were at the mender’s, and the HT leads). All I had to do was join everything electrical up. Which is what happened – but only after stripping and rebuilding almost all the electricals. The handlebar switches in particular were in a ropy old state.

Eventually it was done. I’ve asked Paul to check the charging voltage once he gets it running, and to send a pic of the bike a bit later, when it’s somewhere scenic.

Back from the dead – with what I suspect is at least one Yamaha switch toggle

LED indicators are for the US market, with an orange running light option. We left that bit disconnected

Dyna coils – the old favourite for 1980s Suzukis and Kawasakis. As usual I tried to keep the area under the tank neat

New battery leads, with the fuse box lurking in the background
