Unlike early Chinese bikes, the CF Moto is really well made and thoughtfully designed. This is their 450 twin. And people are racing them

Builder Adam Cameron with the half-finished loom. Just fitting all the connector plugs took three days

Harry’s CF Moto 450 MT racer

Harry is not only a national level enduro rider. He heads up CF Moto in the UK and Ireland.

This loom build is part of a project to turn the 450 MT into a hard enduro bike – something the factory hasn’t got round to yet. That means shedding as much weight as possible, and losing all the electrical gubbins you don’t need. So the following appeared on Harry’s eviction list:

ABS switch, ABS module, wheel speed sensors, sidestand and clutch switch, brake switches, canister magnetic valve, secondary gulp valve, indicators and number plate light. He also wanted a second starter button on the left bar.

Making a race loom for a modern fuel-injected bike is really difficult, so it delegated it to my sometime assistant Adam Cameron. He hasn’t yet got PTSD from building super-complex looms which you can only test right at the end of a build.

Some of the technical info is hard to get, and the factory uses a bewildering range of connector plug makes and types. But Adam is a genius at finding these things. He also turned up a new supplier for 11 amp tracer cable, which may not mean much to you but to us it’s as exciting as finding a live Iguanodon in Waitrose.

With one thing and another the job took six weeks, but we got there. Adam checked his work by using a diagnostic tester, which showed all the sensors were operating. A short test ride showed it was running sweetly.

We rang Harry to tell him the good news, but he was competing at the Red Bull Romaniacs. A reasonable explanation in the circumstances.

You can’t really see but this is the first fitting of the loom. It fitted!
