Jim’s 2006 Yamaha DT200R

This bike belongs to Jim Moore, the editor of Practical Sportsbikes magazine. It’s in nice nick but during the fitting of a Zeeltronic ignition things got a bit snarled up. It was late in the day, the right connectors weren’t to hand – you know the kind of thing. So the ignition unit needed mounting properly in front of the oil tank rather than under the fuel tank, and the wiring tidying up.

The Zeeltronic is a good system but it didn’t seem to be quite right for this particular model. An additional complication is the lack of a DT200R wiring diagram. I used a DT125R one which Jim had, and improvised. Just in case it’s useful for anyone else, I’ve put a wiring diagram up to show how it was done.

Long story short: it worked well, revving eagerly and just as importantly it should stay reliable for a long, long time. The OE connectors were all available from the excellent Kojaycat in Glasgow. You can read more about this bike’s adventures in future issues of PS.
